From Bandung with Love

Saturday, February 13, 2016

Dear everyone who celebrate valentine day,
So what you gonna do this valentine? Romantic candlelight dinner with your borfriend? night out with your besties? or family?
they said love is all around right?

but, have you ever think of it? love to our city? Nation?
well, I've read about Rio Haryanto recently, our talented racer from Surakarta.
got 3 chance to stand onto the podium for the name of Indonesia.
Unluckily, he almost couldn't participate at Formula 1 because of Jakarta Administration Regulation.
The development finance comptroller (APBN in Indonesia) and city budget aren't for commercial purposes.
News spread and also ructions among internet netizen.
Everyone blame the government for cannot help the athlete.
telling our ministry is unsupportive without even knowing the regulation well.

instead of mocking government arround, why people cannot be positive and learned what Rio has taught us. He refuse to switch nationality for the sake of fund and support he can receive from another country interested in his talent.

Dago and the beauty of Bandung

Today I went to Ir. H. Djuanda Street (Also known as Dago) in order to take some photograph for my essay. I went to Dago also to feel the euphoria of Dago Car Free Day that held on sunday morning. When I'm taking some photograph I feel pity for Dago itself. Dago originally start as tiny footpath at 1810. The word 'Dago' itself mean waiting, because people always wait for other people to pass by and they will go through together in purpose of protecting theirselves from wild animal in Dago.

As Bandung got Gementee (City) status in 1906, Nederlandsch-Indie Goverment start to develop Dago. In 1950 Dago start to known as ellite-housing owned by Dutch Government. Dago rapidly grow as many people come and spend their time there, in 1960 the trees along Dago street was cut down for street widening.

Huge population and economic growth soon make a huge impact in Dago, Boutiques, Cafe and Factory outlets start to grow rapidly and replacing the beautiful villa one by one. Nowadays, Dago is totally different from what it was. Commercial takes important roles in this street and heritage buildings started to demolished. there are very little amount of heritage building kept untouched between all the Cafes and outlets.

But today as I walk through Dago, meets a lot of community based near Dago and doing every activity and hobbies, I realized Dago haven't lost everything. there are still cultures left in every people's hearts and they give it to their children in every way they could. Dago might change a lot by what we've seen. But the spirit itself never fade, the culture and the history will always exist in every people's hearts, Especially Bandung citizen.

Happy Valentine Day!
May your love reflected in your city and country :)
